James dihentikan oleh polisi Badung saat mengendarai skuter bersama seorang penumpang wanita karena tidak mengenakan helm. Selama pemeriksaan, petugas menemukan kantong plastik kecil berisi bubuk putih. Pengujian laboratorium yang dilakukan oleh polisi Indonesia mengkonfirmasi bahwa zat dalam paket yang disita adalah kokain.
